JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi Department of Public Safety has begun distributing new Intoxilyzer 9000 machines to law enforcement agencies across the state. These new devices replace the Intoxilyzer 8000 models, which have been in use for over 20 years.

“We are excited about this rollout and eager to get these machines to agencies across the state,” said Commissioner Sean Tindell. The new equipment is designed to improve performance and accuracy in detecting impaired drivers.

The process of acquiring the machines began in October 2023. 82 units are ready for deployment, with an additional 150 expected soon. Officers will receive training through the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory.

“We’ve worked diligently for this launch, and our go-live days are here,” said Mary Jones Dukes, Director of the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory.
