JACKSON, Miss.–The Mississippi State Fair began Thursday with a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. If you plan on attending this year you’ll have to abide some new safety measures, says Ag Commissioner Andy Gipson.
One is a 9 p.m. curfew. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult if entering the gates after 9.
He said trained security personnel and fair staff may also ask you to produce proof that you’re over 18 if you’re alone after that time.
In addition, you will have to go through a metal detector to get in, even though open carry of firearms is permitted.
Admission to the fair this year is $10 per person. Parking is free for the first time and for the first time in its 165-year history, you’ll be able to buy tickets online.
The fair runs through Oct. 14.
