YAZOO CITY, Miss.–A Mississippi Valley State University student was killed in a car wreck in Yazoo City Friday. Ryan Quinney, a junior from Mobile, and a football player was the passenger in a car that had been chased by police.
The chase began in Flora and was called off when the Highway Patrol lost sight of the car in Yazoo County.
When the car was almost through Yazoo City, it hit a parked car, then took out a light pole and flipped several times, killing Quinney and severely injuring the driver.,
Power was knocked out for some residents in the city and county.
The driver was taken to UMMC. It was unclear if that driver was under arrest, the name not yet released to the public.
Quinney’s death was announced in a Facebook post by MVSU.
“We are heartbroken to share that our beloved student, Ryan Quinney, tragically lost his life in a car accident last night. Ryan was a bright light in our community with a spirit that lifted everyone around him. He will be deeply missed by his friends, faculty, and all who knew him,” read the post.
“During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Ryan’s family and loved ones.”
