OXFORD, Miss.–The vice chancellor for Student Affairs at Ole Miss, currently under indictment in an animal cruelty case, has announced she is retiring.

Ole Miss announced Dr. Charlotte Pegues’s decision Friday. The school said it would begin a national search to replace her.

Pegues has been on leave since she was indicted in September, along with her husband, when dead and starved dogs were found at her house.

Pegues has denied the charges through her attorney.
