TUNICA, MS—An attempted home invasion in Tunica left one man dead and another injured early Friday morning. At approximately 1:15 a.m., the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident at 1655 Beatline Road.
The caller reported that gunfire had erupted during the incident. Deputies arrived to find 46-year-old Mardis Carter suffering from a gunshot wound. He was treated on-site by Pafford and subsequently transported to a Memphis hospital.
The second victim, 30-year-old Nadarius Joiner, was also treated at the scene but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by the Tunica County Coroner, Glen Grant.
The homeowners involved are believed to have acted in self-defense, as they have a constitutional right to protect their property from intruders. No arrests have been made at this time.
