Pipeline Expansion in Mississippi Delta to Boost County Tax Revenue

GREENVILLE, Miss.–A pipeline that runs through several Delta counties is being expanded and that means additional tax revenue for the those counties.

Former House Speaker Phillip Gunn, now representing Gulf South and Kinder Morgan, both energy companies that operate pipelines, as an attorney with Balch and Bingham law firm, told the Washington County Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning that both companies are either expanding existing natural gas lines or starting construction on new lines.
“That’s already coming through Greenville, Washington County, runs over through Sunflower, Holmes, Humphreys into Attala County,” he said. The line then runs from Kosciusko south through Clarke County.
As far as the line from Gulf South, which runs from Arkansas to Alabama, the expansion should be fully operational by 2029.
“What that means to Greenville, to Washington County, is it’s gonna generate about $1.3 million a year in ad valorem taxes,” said Gunn.
He did not have exact numbers on what the Kinder Morgan line would generate, but said it would take a path parallel to the Gulf South line.
Gun said the lines are about 4 ft. underground.
“They don’t produce noise. They don’t produce smell,” he said. Gunn said he had already met with supervisors from the other counties that would be affected by the expansion.
