CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a tornado watch for much of the Mid-South, including portions of the Mississippi Delta, through 10 p.m. Tuesday as severe weather moves across the region.
According to the weather service, a couple of tornadoes are possible, along with scattered hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts reaching up to 75 mph.
The tornado watch includes several counties across northwest Mississippi, including Clarksdale, Oxford and surrounding Delta communities, as well as parts of west Tennessee and eastern Arkansas.
Forecasters said the severe weather system could bring dangerous conditions throughout the evening, urging residents to remain weather aware and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
The National Weather Service reported that more than 2.6 million people are within the watch area, along with 959 schools and 84 hospitals.
Officials recommend residents seek shelter immediately if a tornado warning is issued for their area and avoid traveling during severe storms unless necessary.
