Two men were arrested after attempting to smuggle contraband into the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility, authorities said.
Around 11:56 a.m., Bolivar County Sheriff’s Deputies were leaving the Sheriff’s Office when they observed a man, later identified as 29-year-old Trabious McGloson of Crowder, MS, tossing items over the prison fence. Deputies attempted to apprehend McGloson, who fled to a black Ford Fusion parked on Highway 8 West in Cleveland. He was arrested before he could drive away. A second man, identified as 29-year-old Denzel Strickland of Lambert, MS, was found sitting in the passenger seat.
A search of the vehicle revealed a large bag containing cigars, cigarettes, hair clippers, several bottles of alcohol, and 128 grams of marijuana. Deputies later discovered additional contraband near the fence, including more marijuana, cigars, tobacco products, and cell phones. The total weight of the marijuana found was 14.74 ounces, while the alcohol amounted to 112 ounces.
Both McGloson and Strickland were charged with felony possession of marijuana and introduction of contraband into the facility. They are currently being held at the Bolivar County Regional Facility awaiting their initial court appearance.
