VICKSBURG, Miss.–As the Mississippi River continues to rise it not only affects people on the upper Delta portions of the river, but also the lower. Monday the City of Vicksburg held a press conference to ensure people the city is doing what it can to help with the expected flooding.
“We are working diligently to assess the risk, activate flood fighting efforts and ensure the protection of properties, infrastructure and most importantly, the people,” said Mayor George Flaggs.
Last week he declared a state of emergency for the city, where the river is expected to reach around 48 ft., which will make some flooding all but certain.
The city has installed walls and barricades to help minimize the damage and risk level.
Flooding is also expected to affect Eagle Lake and the Kinds community, according to Warren County Emergency Management.
