TUNICA, Miss.–A winter storm watch is in effect for much of the Delta from 6 p.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Saturday, with the northern counties projected to possibly get as much as 6 inches of snow and one to two inches predicted as far south as Yazoo County.
Freezing rain is a possibility, but not a large one, according to the forecast issued Tuesday evening, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Abby Herdliska, with the Memphis office.
“Sp that’s really the biggest question, as to whether we will get freezing rain with that,” she said. “Right now we’re thinking it’s not the greatest possibility because of how cold we’re going to be.
She said if the storm system were to track more northward, freezing rain would be more of a possibility.
Herdliska said she does expect snow to stay on the ground through the weekend, since, especially in the northernmost Mississippi counties, temperatures will stay at or just below freezing.
The Weather Service is advising you to prepare now for possible winter weather.
Herdliska said that a warning will be issued when the forecast is more clear and for wherever forecasters expect two inches or more of snow accumulation.
