TUNICA, Miss.–Northern Delta counties could be in for another round of wintry precipitation with some accumulations possible beginning tonight and into Wednesday morning, to be followed by a bout with more extreme cold weather.
“We have an upper level disturbance,” said Corey Chaskelson, forecaster with the National Weather Service. He said the expectation is for the precip to begin Tuesday afternoon and evening and be over by Wednesday morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for north Delta counties.
“Across north Mississippi we’re expecting rain to gradually transition to a mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow,” he said.
Accumulations are not expected to be significant, with the possibility of an inch of sleet or a light glaze of ice, which could still make driving dangerous.
Behind the precipitation comes extreme cold weather, with highs iin the 20s Wednesday and Thursday, lows near 10 and wind chills much lower than that.
