NATCHEZ, Miss.–Congressman Bennie Thompson, who represents the Delta in Washington, said during a town hall Tuesday in Natchez that he believes Pres. Trump is trying to change the law with his executive orders.

Thompson is also scheduled to conduct a town hall in Greenville next week, on April 24.

“All these things came by executive order. We’ve not had any hearings for the most part. Pres. Trump has just been doing it by executive order,” he said.

While Thompson was not specific, he mentioned Social Security, without elaborating on whether he was indicating he believes people should fear damage to the program.

However, he did mention federal job cuts.

“I have a lot of people who work at the Corps of Engineers in Warren County. They shouldn’t have any fear of their job. Now they do,” he said.

Thompson criticized Republicans, particularly, his Congressional colleagues, for not holding the president accountable.

“It’s either right or wrong and you know some of these things are wrong,” he said, repeatedly citing Trump’s current battles with federal courts over some of his executive orders.
