HUMPHREYS COUNTY, Miss. — The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a tragic single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning, resulting in the fatality of a 29-year-old woman. At approximately 6:00 a.m. on June 8, 2024, authorities were dispatched to Highway 49W in Humphreys County following reports of the incident. According to preliminary investigations, a 2021 Kia K5, operated by Lawanda Friend, 29, of Isola, Mississippi, was traveling southbound on Highway 49W when it veered off the roadway. The vehicle subsequently overturned and collided with a ditch. Lawanda Friend sustained fatal injuries in the accident and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Mississippi Highway Patrol has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
