SUNFLOWER COUNTY, Miss.–Friday evening on Hwy. 3 in Sunflower County, Kenneth Willies, 40, of Memphis, died when his car ran off the highway, hit a ditch and flipped. Willies was one of four people to die on Mississippi highways during the Highway Patrol’s July 4 Holiday Enforcement Period, which ended Sunday night.
Other fatal wrecks happened in Scott, Pike and Pearl River counties.
In total, the agency investigated 141 crashes, in which 45 people were hurt.
They also made 149 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and issued nearly 6,500 tickets.
