GREENWOOD, Miss.–The Crystal Grill, located on Carrollton Avenue in Greenwood for nearly 90 years, has closed permanently. The announcement was made in a Facebook post Tuesday by the restaurant’s owners.
“To all of our loyal customers, With careful thought and a heavy heart, we are announcing that our family restaurant, The Crystal Grill, is closing. After many years, we have made this hard decision to close our doors effective immediately,” read the post by Johnny and Beverly Ballas.
The owners did not give an explanation for the decision to close. The restaurant had been closed since before the July 2 holiday.
The Ballas family has operated the restaurant for decades, with the current generation having taken over in the mid 1980s.
“We are very grateful to our loyal employees throughout the years. Our success couldn’t have happened without your hard work,” said Ballas. “Most of all, we are thankful to our customers in Greenwood and beyond. We enjoyed being a part of your lives as you gathered and celebrated throughout the years. Your belief in us has played a huge part in the success of the restaurant.”
The decision to close had people from all over the Delta and central Mississippi, many of whom have eaten at the restaurant, reposting and commenting on the post.
