WEST MONROE, AR (Ben Caxton) — A Monticello man was arrested Tuesday after firing multiple shots into a West Monroe Louisiana school building. Police arrived at Riverbend Elementary School to find multiple shell casings on the ground, and the school’s front door shot out. The suspect was identified as Jeffery L. Smith of Monticello by surveillance video – and by his wallet that he had left in the men’s bathroom of the school helpfully containing his Arkansas driver’s license. He was arrested Tuesday in the 600 block of Riverbend in West Monroe and charged with Aggravated Burglary, Possession of a Firearm in a School Zone, and Illegal Use of Weapons. Bond was set at $125,000.
