ARKABUTLA, Miss.–Thirty-two dogs and a large iguana were rescued from a house on Prichard Rd. in Arkabutla, Saturday, say Tate County deputies.
It was unclear what led to deputies getting a warrant. But they say when they got it, they served it and inside that house they found the dogs, the lizard and Tommy Dean Douglas.
He apparently did not go easily and was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, simple assault on a police officer and disorderly conduct, disobeying a lawful order. He’s in the Tate County jail on a $50,000 bond.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s department,. The animals were taken to the Tate County Animal Shelter in Senatobia, where they are being cared for by volunteers. Veterinarians are helping the animals with health issues. The shelter now says that they are at maximum capacity and can’t accept any more animals.
