TUNICA, Miss.–Raises are hard to come by. But, at least four people in the Tunica County Tax Assessor’s Office and one jailer will be getting them, starting in October.
“I’m asking the board to grant my department an increase in salary…to keep from losing my deputies,” asked Norma Anderson at Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, indicating she believes some may leave for jobs in the private sector, which typically pay more than public service jobs.
The board did not take much convincing and unanimously approved the raises, which in some cases were for about $3 per hoyr.
A jailer also got a substantial raise after being promoted to lieutenant, upon request of the sheriff’s department.
