WASHINGTON, DC (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi’s expedited request for a Federal Disaster Declaration in response to the severe Easter Sunday storms has been approved by President Donald Trump. At least 33 of the state’s 82 counties reported damage from the storms, and 14 people died as 13 tornadoes struck Mississippi. The declaration will provide individual assistance to affected residents and can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the storms. As damage assessments continue, more counties could be added to the list to become eligible for federal assistance.
