JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said 17 injuries have been reported following severe storms that moved across the state overnight, causing widespread damage in several counties.

In a social media update Thursday, Reeves said preliminary damage assessments show at least 275 homes and 50 apartment units were damaged or left inaccessible in Lamar County. Officials also reported 30 roads closed because of storm debris. The county shelter and safe room remain open, and assistance from the American Red Cross is available.

In Lincoln County, more than 200 homes were reported damaged. Reeves said the Cajun Navy is deploying a 50-person shelter pod, a 30-kilowatt generator and 10 pallets of supplies to assist with recovery efforts.
Officials in Lawrence County reported damage to 12 homes, along with multiple road closures caused by downed trees and power lines.

Reeves said the numbers are preliminary and could change as damage assessments continue.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is assisting with damage and operational assessments while road-clearing crews work to remove debris. Additional state resources are also being deployed at the request of local emergency managers.
“Please continue to pray for Mississippi,” Reeves said in the statement.
