CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University’s geospatial intelligence programs have earned five-year reaccreditation from the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation, extending their accreditation through June 2031.
The university’s Geospatial Analysis and Intelligence Certificate Program and Bachelor of Applied Science in Geospatial Analysis and Intelligence received the designation following a comprehensive review conducted between summer 2025 and spring 2026.
The review included an initial application assessment, evaluations by three independent subject matter experts and a final review by USGIF leadership.
According to the university, the programs were recognized for their alignment with core geospatial intelligence competencies, workforce preparation, accessibility, experienced faculty, government and industry partnerships and student support services.
Delta State’s bachelor’s degree program remains the only USGIF-accredited bachelor’s program of its kind in the nation, while its GEOINT certificate program is among the longest continuously accredited programs in the field.
“Geospatial intelligence is the science of ‘where,’” said Talbot Brooks, director of Delta State’s Center for Interdisciplinary Geospatial Information Technologies. “We train students to take the flood of data pouring in from satellites, drones and sensors and turn it into a clear answer about what is happening on the ground and why it matters.”
USGIF CEO Ronda Schrenk said the reaccreditation reflects the strength of Delta State’s programs and the university’s commitment to preparing students for careers in the geospatial intelligence field.
“USGIF accreditation is designed to recognize programs that meet rigorous standards for GEOINT education, workforce relevance and continuous improvement,” Schrenk said.
The programs are housed within Delta State’s Center for Interdisciplinary Geospatial Information Technologies and serve traditional students, military personnel, working professionals and career changers. USGIF identified the programs’ asynchronous structure, experienced faculty and partnerships as key strengths.
Associate Provost Jeffrey Leffler said maintaining accreditation requires an ongoing commitment to quality, innovation and continuous improvement.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Leslie Griffin said USGIF validation provides a foundation for future growth in geospatial intelligence education at Delta State.
