Glen Allen Officials Discuss Safety of Upcoming Homecoming Celebration

GLEN ALLEN, Miss.–An upcoming homecoming celebration in Glen Allen has the attention of the Washington County Board of Supervisors because people have been riding four-wheelers and other ATVs at the park where it’s expected to take place. Some of those four-wheelers have been on county roads and highways and that makes it a dangerous situation, says Sheriff Milton Gaston.

“As of yesterday I did start asking deputies to start writing tickets for four-wheelers on the roads,” Gaston told the board. “We’ve had several wreck down on Number 1 south with four wheelers, go carts.”
Board Pres. Carl McGee said that any plans anyone might have that involve four wheelers and other ATVs at a gather in that park, which could include as many as 2,000 people, should be forgotten.
“In the State of Mississippi there are certain guidelines, certain laws that govern ATVs, right?” he asked the sheriff, who answered in the affirmative.
“We want to enforce those laws. We have a serious issue…especially on the weekend when they think nobody is around.”
The issue of security for the homecoming event was also brought up. Private events must provide their own security at their own expense.
