Mayor and Police Chief Respond to Weekend Violence

In light of recent gun violence in Greenville and nearby Indianola, Mayor Errick D. Simmons and Greenville Police Chief Marcus R. Turner have addressed the community. Mayor Simmons condemned the violence and called for urgent action. “Enough is enough,” he said. “My heart is hurting right now, and we must continue our collective efforts to address these reckless and senseless acts of violence.” He added, “Put away your guns and parents, know where your children are.

If you are carrying illegal guns and using them for violence, then you are the problem.” Chief Turner expressed deep concern over the violence, noting, “We are devastated by this weekend’s tragic events in both the Town of Indianola and the City of Greenville.” He emphasized the department’s commitment to addressing the issue: “All violent criminal acts will not be tolerated but will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Both officials stressed the need for community involvement, urging residents to report suspicious activities and participate in local violence intervention efforts. For further assistance, residents can contact the Greenville Police Department at (662) 378-1515.
