GREENVILLE, Miss.–A rush job has been started to have a street named after 91-year-old bluesman Bobby Rush in Greenville. That is expected to happen the week of the Delta Blues and Heritage Festival, which begins Sept. 21.
Though Rush is not from Greenville, he has performed at 46 of the 47 festivals, pointed out Mayor Errick Simmons at Tuesday’s Greenville Council meeting.
“Bobby Rush, three-time Grammy-award winning singer will be here and he’s set to perform as well, again for the 47th year,” said Simmons, in urging the council to move ahead with a vote since the next council meeting will be Sept. 17, and could make the process a tight one.
Rush already has a street in Jackson, his home, named in his honor.
