HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss.–The electric service provided by Holly Springs Utility Department will soon be under investigation, says Northern District Public Service Commissioner for Mississippi Chris Brown. He told Action News 5 in Memphis that the commission, which regulates utilities like electric, water and gas service, will hire a third party to do the job.
Brown did noy elaborate on what investigators will be looking for.
The Mississippi legislature passed a law this year that gives the commission the right to cancel a utility’s certification to provide service if they are not doing an adequate job. It is still unclear if the forthcoming investigation pertains to on-going complaints about the city’s power service.
“If the utility so ordered to correct such a failure fails to comply with such order of the commission and the commission finds that cancellation of its certificate would be in the best interest of the consuming public served by the holder of the certificate, its certificate for the area affected may be revoked and cancelled by the commission,” says the new law.
