GREENVILLE, Miss.–King George will once again headline the Mississippi Delta Blues and Heritage Festival, which will be held in September at the Washington County Convention Center. The lineup was announced on the steps of Greenville City Hall; by organizers and Mayor Errick Simmons, who remarked that it is the world’s oldest blues festival..
This year is year 47 for the annual event, which begins Sept. 21 and spans several days.
“We have a great lineup. We worked really hard to get it put together. We did a little fussing and fighting, fussing and fighting with each other, with the artists about money,” said one of the organizers.
The lineup also includes three-time Grammy winner Bobby Rush, now 91, Eden Brent and Keith Johnson and the Big Muddy Band. Johnson is the nephew of Rolling Fork’s Muddy Water.
