GREENVILLE, Miss.  — Greenville Police Department investigators are probing two homicides that occurred over the weekend, raising the city’s homicide tally for the year to five. The first incident unfolded early Saturday around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Nelson and Harvey Streets.

Officers rushed to the scene following reports of gunfire and discovered the lifeless body of 47-year-old Michael Washington of Greenville. Washington had succumbed to an apparent gunshot wound shortly after leaving a nearby nightclub. As of now, authorities have questioned individuals of interest but have not made any arrests.

In a separate incident later that weekend, officers responded to a call in the 300 block of First Street where they found 49-year-old Kerry Overton of Greenville lying in a vacant lot. Overton had also been fatally shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are actively pursuing leads and interviewing potential witnesses, yet no suspects have been apprehended.

Authorities urge anyone with pertinent information regarding either case to contact Crime Stoppers at (662) 378-8477 (TIPS). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 if their information leads to an arrest.
