Mississippi Tornadoes Cause Damage, Claim Lives in Southern Counties

GREENWOOD, Miss.–None of the tornadoes that hit Delta counties have thus far been rated above and EF2 on the Enhanced Fukita scale, which means that none of them reached wind speeds f more than 135 mph. Still, they did their fair share of damage.

The Duck Hill/Elliott/Gore Springs tornado has been rated an EF2.
The Belzoni, Sidon/Greenwood tornado has also been rated an EF2, both doing “considerable” damage.
The tornado that caused damage in Grace, in Issaquena County, was also rated EF2.
A possible tornado in Washington County is yet to be surveyed by the National Weather Service.
No injuries or deaths were reported in the Siden/Greenwood tornado. It hit the outskirts of Greenwood, damaging homes and apartments in three subdivisions and knocking out power and water, also causing school closures.
The tornado in Elliott, in Grenada County sent three people to the hospital.
All six deaths in Mississippi were reported in three southern counties. The tornado that hit Tylertown was rated EF3, with winds up to 140 mph. The tornado that hit Kentwood, La., and traveled into Mississippi, was rated an EF4, with winds up to 170 mph.
