Washington County Looks to Lure New Businesses With Industrial Land Development

GREENVILLE, Miss.–Attracting new businesses to Washington County could mean more jobs for the mid-Delta area and the Washington County Economic Alliance is hoping to use the momentum created by projects like the new Entergy power plant to bring those businesses in.

Part of that is making sure industrial type businesses have a place to locate. So, development of industrial land in Leland is crucial, according to Justin Burch, executive director of the Alliance.

“We went to Atlanta and Dallas. Ultimately we ended up with about eight companies who are showing interest in Washington County,” said Burch at this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Along with the development of the Leland site, companies must know if the county and possible sites within are a good fit.

“We are looking at maybe bringing in a third-party company out of Dallas to begin building a localized incentive package that we would then provide to the Board of Supervisors and the City of Greenville,” said Burch.

That package would tell prospective companies what is available and what the county wants and doesn’t want.
