Threat at Greenville City Hall Quickly Resolved

GREENVILLE, Miss. — Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons said Thursday that a verbal threat made against City Hall earlier in the day was swiftly resolved after police apprehended the suspect without incident.

According to city officials, the Mayor’s Office received a call in which the caller threatened to “blow everyone up at City Hall.” The individual later arrived at the building, where Greenville Police officers took him into custody.
Authorities said there are no ongoing threats or safety concerns for employees, visitors, or the public.

“Today’s events were deeply troubling, and I want each of our employees to know that their safety, peace of mind, and emotional well-being are my top priorities,” Simmons said in a statement. “We should never have to face threats while serving our community—but when we do, we stand together as a family.”
Simmons said the city will be working with the Police Department and Human Resources to schedule active shooter and crisis response training for City Hall staff.

He also encouraged employees to support one another in the aftermath of the incident, noting that post-traumatic stress and emotional trauma can emerge even when not immediately visible.

“I thank our Greenville Police Department for their swift action and professionalism in apprehending the suspect and ensuring that no one was harmed,” Simmons said. “Together, we will continue to serve Greenville with the strength and unity that define who we are.”
