Greenville Mayor Condemns Vandalism of Waterfront Holiday Display

GREENVILLE, Miss. — Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons is calling for community vigilance after nearly 30 floodlights and several decorations were vandalized at the newly installed Waterfront Schelben Park Holiday Display over the weekend.

According to Simmons, the damage included stolen floodlights, overturned and broken displays, a damaged Christmas tree, and the beard torn from a Santa figure. The city’s Public Works Department has been working for weeks to prepare the display as part of Greenville’s downtown holiday festivities.

“These acts do not reflect who we are as a community,” Simmons said in a public notice. “We work too hard, and our families — especially our children — deserve better.”
Simmons said the city is reviewing security footage and coordinating with law enforcement to identify those responsible. Repairs and replacements to the damaged items are already underway.

“We will not allow vandalism to steal Greenville’s Christmas spirit,” he said.
The mayor urged residents to help protect the city’s holiday decorations by reporting any suspicious activity.

“Together, we can ensure that Greenville shines bright this season,” Simmons said, encouraging the community to remain united and celebrate a safe and joyful Christmas.
