As Co-Chair of Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative representing 101 mayors on the Mississippi River Corridor from ten states, Mayor Errick D. Simmons attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference recently.
The event, COP26 as it is referred, was held in Scotland with Mayor Simmons focused on the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative and the work of Mississippi River mayors to reduce disaster risk, sequester carbon, limit methane release, improve water quality, and attract ecologically beneficial economic development.

“The Mississippi River Basin is in a unique position to lead climate performance because our basin produces 40 percent of the world’s agricultural commodities, is the largest navigable basin on Earth, and 1 in every 12 people world-wide consume commodities produced by the Mississippi River Basin,” said Mayor Simmons.
