ROSEDALE, Miss.–The importance of the Port of Rosedale was one subject Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg stressed during his first visit to the state, which included a quick tour of the Delta, along with Congressman Bennie Thompson and Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons.
“The port in Rosedale, this is a slack-water harbour where they bring in goods and export the amazing crop and farm wealth of this region out to feed the world,” said the secretary at a press conference concerning the visit.
Both Rosedale and Greenville hosted Buttigieg, with a meeting in Greenville to discuss “immediate transportation infrastructure needs”.
It was unclear if there would be any immediate benefit to the visit.
During his visit, Buttigieg equated transportation and racial equity.
“Equitable transportation has always been one of the core commitments and for that reason has also always been one of the most important battlegrounds for racial and economic justice and Civil Rights in this county,” he said.
