GREENVILLE, Miss.–The Mississippi River is now not expected to fall below flood stage until Saturday, May 2. The National Weather Service has extended the flood warning for the Mississippi in Delta counties until then.
Sunday the river was at 53 ft. in Greenville. Flood stage is at 48 ft.
The river is expected to rise slowly to a stage of 54 ft. on May 2.
“At 55.0 feet, Practically all areas between levees are flooded. Approximately 50 buildings have water inside them. Water enters Farmers Grain terminal building north of the Greenville bridge. Electric power is turned off to north and south Lake Ferguson Road and Hillman-Logan Road,” read the warning language from the Weather Service.
The river is not currently expected to reach 55 ft. But, some of those impacts could be realized, with the river just inches below.
